Over the years, I have been involved in a number of different businesses. But the idea for Lachlanplusurns began with something personal: facing my own mortality and starting to plan for the day when I would no longer be here.
I began asking myself questions that many of us eventually face. Was my will in order? Who would I choose as my power of attorney and executor? Who would take care of my cat? And would I want to be buried or cremated?
To make thoughtful decisions, I needed to do some research. I explored traditional burial, natural burial, cremation, and the different ways people choose to care for ashes and honour a life. From a columbarium niche to scattering ashes or keeping a memorial keepsake, there was more to consider than I had first imagined.
Then I started looking at urns. I discovered many styles, materials, and designs. Choosing one wasn’t as simple as I had expected. It made me think about how personal that choice can be, and how an urn might reflect someone’s life, interests, or personality.
I realised that the decisions I was working through were the same ones many other people face, whether planning ahead for themselves or remembering someone they love.
That experience sparked the idea for Lachlanplusurns. It was an opportunity to bring my business experience together with a personal desire to help others explore their choices and find a meaningful way to honour a life.
My hope is to make choosing an urn feel a little less overwhelming and a little more personal.
